Diamond Life: La Russa Calls It A Day After A Hall Of Fame Career

Monday, October 31, 2011

In almost “just breaking” news, St. Louis Cardinals manager, and three-time World Series champion Tony La Russa has retired. La Russa, who’s baseball career started as a player for the Kansas City Athletics in 1962 leaves the game behind with a total of 2,728 regular season wins (third most all time). He’s also the winningest manager in Cardinals history with 1,408, no slouch among a club that holds 11 World Series titles.

All in all, it’s a pretty big blow for an organization that’s probably about to lose it’s best player also (Albert Pujols).
