Diamond Life: Major League Baseball Is The League Of Extraordinary Stack Acquisitions

Major League Baseball teams are flexing major financial muscle this off-season in going after free agents, and keeping their best players around. Case in point, the L.A. Dodgers just made team MVP Matt Kemp a very rich man after a season full of success (.324 batting average, 39 homers, 126 RBI, 40 stolen bases via LATimes) for the 27yr old outfielder. Kemp was rewarded with an 8yr, $160million dollar deal that will keep the star in Dodger blue until age 34.
The Dodgers aren’t the only team putting stacks on the line for big time players at the moment. St. Louis Cardinals free agent, Albert Pujols, has reportedly received an offer from the new look Miami Marlins somewhere in the range of $200million dollars for 9 years. Though a local Miami CBS affiliate is stating that the number would larger if the Marlins could verify Pujols’ age. Regardless of truth, it’s highly likely that Pujols will be checking major bank wherever he ends up playing.
