HARD IN THE PAINT: WHY WE ROCK WITH THE CUSTODIAN

Monday, June 13, 2011

On his seventh squad since turning pro in 2000 (including a stop in Valencia, Spain), Brian Cardinal, lovingly called “The Custodian” is now a firmly entrenched American Folk hero. The Tolono, Illinois native was somewhat devastating off of the bench in the Mavs NBA championship run. As soon as he entered the game, you knew someone was catching the wrong end of a flagrant foul (ahem……….Chris Bosh). The statuesque (pause) Cardinal even hit a couple of shots in games 5 and 6 when he came off the bench like clock work at the end of the 1st quarter every game.

You almost have to give props to a guy nicknamed “The Custodian,” who’s career has seen him everywhere from Purdue in college to the Pistons, Wizards, Warriors, Grizzlies, Timberwolves and now as a world champion Dallas Maverick. So we’ll chuck up a deuce in recognition of the guy who did the dirty work in this year’s NBA finals, although we’re not sure that’s why he’s called “Custodian.”
