MEDIA MOVEMENT: JUDGE SHUTS DOWN NFL OWNERS, JIM TRESSEL GETS NCAA’D

Tuesday, April 26, 2011

U.S. District Judge Susan Richard Nelson tipped her hat to the NFLPA by ordering owners to end a 7 week old lockout. What does this mean, for the moment it means that the players have gained some weight in the struggle to keep their share of $9 billion in annual revenue. Does it mean that the upcoming NFL season is back on and popping? Not necessarily, the NFL has already filed notice questioning if the court was over reaching in it’s ruling.

Now the real back and forth starts, but we’re almost positive the players are feeling a little better about themselves after today. Check this rundown in the LATimes for more info

Jim Tressel may be in deep sh&t

Jim Tressel won’t be able to sweater vest and straight face his way out of an NCAA investigation that’s going in on the coach’s knowledge and handling of tatt-gate. The university and coach we’re hoping to head off any NCAA ire by self imposing a 5 game suspension on the players involved, as well as coach Tressel who had to pay a $250,000 fine on top of that. Today the NCAA hit all parties involved (tOSU, and athletic department) with the ooh-wop, an 8-page document that’s basically accusing Tressel of lying. In fact, according to USAToday, the NCAA had this to say

Focusing on Tressel’s behavior, the NCAA alleged the coach “permitted football student-athletes to participate in intercollegiate athletics while ineligible.” It also said he “failed to deport himself … (with) honesty and integrity” and said he was lying when he filled out a compliance form in September that said he had no knowledge of any NCAA violations by any of his players. via USAT

NCAA officials have given the school until June 5th to come correct on the situation, which means we’ll all hear about the impending sanctions in 2015.
