TITG: Colts Owner Jim Irsay Offers Backhanded Praise, Calls Manning A “Politician”

Friday, January 27, 2012

Kids, if you ever wanted to know why some NFL players act all kinds of crazy, even holding of out of practice until they get their just due (aka major paycheck), look no further than Indianapolis. Right now it seems that there is some tension between owner Jim Irsay, and QB Peyton Manning regarding remarks Manning made about the unfamiliar atmosphere at Colts headquarters. Irsay responded in kind offering backhanded praise, and ultimately branding Manning a “Politician.” The Colts owner then reiterated

“I don’t think it’s in a good interest to paint the horseshoe in a negative light, I really don’t,” Irsay said. “He’s such a big part of that and everything else, but the horseshoe always comes first.

“I think one thing that he’s always known, because he’s been around it so long, is you keep it in the family. If you’ve got a problem, you talk to each other. It’s not about campaigning or anything like that.” via USA Today

Does anyone else get the feeling that this is going to end with Peyton possibly playing for another team at the start of next year (depending on if he gets his $26million in 2 months)? It’s obvious Irsay’s not gonna take a backseat to anyone, he’s just that type of owner. But don’t you think a guy that’s afforded you the majority of your success over the last 12 years has a right to speak about a few things? It just goes to show that any and everyone is expendable when there time comes, even Peyton. Moral of the story is, get as much as you can out of your situation while you’re hot. Because when it’s over, it’s over
