TITG: Run That Back (Fall 2011) – College Football Recap, Week 13

No rivalry/holiday week upsets, but still more than enough realness provided to last until next weekend. Check out one of the final editions of ‘Run That Back” for the 2011 season below, and look out for big things coming up here at Already.
The Really Real -
Alabama – Broke the Auburn Tigers off something real proper like in Saturday’s meeting of the longtime rivals. Backing into a national championship game is another story.
Virginia Tech – Blanked their in-state rival 38-0, and will likely continue their reign as kings of the ACC.
Michigan State – The Spartans notched their 10th win of the season, posting a salty Northwestern team 31-17. Clearing the road for an appearance at the first ever Big 10 (+2) Championship Game.
USC – The Trojans are playing great football right now, courtesy of Matt Barkley and a crazy talented, young receiving corp. USC dominance of UCLA also continues to send coaches in Westwood packing
Houston – One game away from making history, the Cougs continue to put up major numbers on opponents. Tulsa, who was supposed to be a challenge for Houston, could do nothing right after the first few series. Houston won 48-16, likely to do the same this weekend against Southern Miss.
Georgia – Firmly planting your biggest rival is cause for celebration, but the Dawgs can’t party to hard over a 31-17 win over Georgia Tech. LSU awaits……
Michigan – Here strictly because they finally beat Ohio State. And before Buckeye fans get all up in arms, both coaching staffs went through significant changes.
LSU – The Tigers have been the most consistently real team in the country this year. Their offense isn’t flashy, but they score a lot of points. The Tiger defense is just beastly, period. Arkansas got a heavy dose of that realness in a Friday afternoon beat down in Baton Rouge
Not A Good Look -
Georgia Tech – Lost to UGA by double digits, and have to watch Dawg fans come back this weekend and take over their city (again).
Texas Tech – Baylor scoring 66 on the Red Raiders marked the second time this year that a team put up 60+ on their D. Definitely not a good look, especially when a back up QB puts your defense on blast.
Virginia – The Hoos ruined all of the good will they built up over a decent season by getting their ass handed to them on a sterling silver platter by the Hokies.
Clemson – Went from a national title contender to an after thought in the state of South Carolina, after a thorough two piece by the Gamecocks
Maryland – Has to be a bad feeling knowing you took drastic (and unessesary) steps in an attempt to move up in staturel, only to find yourself back at the bottom.
Fall Back -
UCLA – Before you Bruins go out and hire a coach, please make sure that you are willing commit to everything it takes to be a solid football program in the new millennium. At least give a head coach a full deck to play with, this isn’t 1997.
Wack-ness -
Texas & Texas A&M – Aggies and Horns are playing the “take our ball and go home” act extra hard. We think they’ll start playing again though, and sooner than later
TITG -
Matt Barkley (USC) – Is Matt Barkley seriously being considered for the Heisman? He’s been playing out of his mind this season, and his 6td performance against UCLA just confirms that he needs to be in every voters top 4
Patrick Edwards (Houston) – Case Keenum gets all the shine on the Cougars offense, but Edwards is a big part of why he keeps putting up major numbers. Against Tulsa, Edwards put up 181yds, and 4tds on 8 catches.
Trent Richardson (Alabama) – No touchdowns to speak of against Auburn, but Richardson knocked off major chinks of yardage on the ground. Totalled 203yds rushing on 27 carries, and will likely be the Heisman trophy winner this year.
Tyrann Mathieu (LSU) – If the Honey Badger wouldn’t have gotten into some synthetic honey, he would be at the top of the Heisman list. Mathieu had a 92 yard punt return for TD early in Friday’s game against Arkansas.
