TITG: The Cult Of Tebow (Living Colour Game Proper)

Monday, January 9, 2012

Forget about Arian Foster’s 151 yard performance pushing the Texans to their first playoff win as a franchise. Don’t even think about Eli’s 3 touchdown performance, or Drew Brees’ monster numbers from Wildcard weekend. As it would turn out, this weekend was all about Tebow. Who, after leading the offense to net 8 yards in the first quarter and a half; pulled another win out of his bag of magic tricks. That magic being an 80 yd bomb to Demaryius Thomas, in overtime to send the Pittsburgh Steelers home in the first around a year after a Super Bowl appearance.

He’s done all of this before, it’s been well chronicled throughout the season (and his sports career in general). It’s created a group of hardcore followers and hangers on, that have anointed the QB their personal super hero. When Tebow rambled off 5 straight wins, even his haters were looking for room on the train.

Being a fan of Tebow & Jesus is a double win for your soul

But the last few weeks featuring three lackluster losses, saw many Tebow band-wagoners jumping off the train. Must admit, their aren’t many people in the Already crew that are on that bandwagon. And it has more to do the with group of people singing Tebow’s name from the mountain top, than the man himself. This group of people have made it almost unbearable to be a rational fan of the game, or Tebow himself. To them, Tebow is the only “pure” religious and/or spiritual guy in the league. A group of fans that think it’s refreshing that he’s brought “god” back into the game. Completely ignoring the fact that players have been kneeling in prayer after they score since I can remember. All of that noise muddles the fact that the only thing that matters in the NFL is winning, and that’s what Tebow (with the aid of teammates) does best.
