THE BREAKS: SHAWNE MERRIMAN, LOOKING AT THE FRONT DOOR

Another high profile San Diego Charger is looking at the front door with news that the team would release defensive lightening rod Shawne Merriman when he comes off of IR this season. Merriman was one of the more feared defensive players in the league during his first 3 seasons, but his production has dwindled as of late due to injuries. Add a few off the field situations, and you’ve got a still fairly young pro bowler that could be looking for a team soon.

It could be a good thing for Merriman, if you look at the success of ex Chargers like Brees and Ladanian Tomlinson(although still early) with other teams. Merriman issued the statement below through his publicist:
